Seems like it’s done and dusted.

Just watched a very good précis by BBC reporter Frank Gardner about how the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel started a series of events that led to this.

"His plane" was shot down... the question is, was he on it? His family, apparently, all escaped to Russia in recent days... now, if wanted to escape to Russia too, with the bare minimum of people coming looking for me after the fact, I'd probably consider having my plane shot down as a showpiece while I leave the country hidden under the seats of a battered old Hilux.

Either way... he's no longer in charge.

Seems to be a big win for Ukraine, too, having another Russian-backed regime crumble away. Good for them!

Israel invading Syria/ Golan heights

Seems to be  that taking over a good water supply is the main reason....rather than  for security...?

IARI.SITE

The Golan Heights, a geographic area of paramount importance, constitute an inclined plateau covering 1,800 km2

Quote

Control of water resources: The Golan Heights are crucial from the point of view of water resources. This region forms an essential part of the Sea of Galilee reservoir, which is Israel’s main water supply.
