Sweden’s central bank, the Riksbank, has proposed several measures to make it easier to pay...

Once again it looks like Sweden is following the right path.

It's because many immigrants don't come from a card use culture and allowances are now being made for them.No one really wants cash anymore,it's a hassel all the way from user to banker. You can't pay with cash in Stockholm, literally no one takes it outside of the ethnic food shops.

I can't remember the last time I paid a bill using cash? Might have been in London circa 1999?

I’m not overly bothered about theories regarding why it’s being done, I use it as much as is reasonably possible, and will actively avoid card only locations.  Both  have a place.

our local chippy has a notice asking to pay by cash (but they will take cards) because of the card charges

plus the bank knows where you are and what you are buying bit like big brother

Use of cash is also proven to

promote a far more disciplined approach to spending.

IIRC Sweden was on the track to be the first country to go cashless, they were pushing for it.

IMO going cashless is way easier for the consumer but it just puts more money into the pockets of others ie Mr visa and Mr mastercard therefore taking money from consumers and merchants.

It's no theory. I watched a docco about it on SVT,my bird is Swedish and I am over there frequently.

The old chestnut being that reducing cash usage will make it harder for criminals.

That's the line they push here.

Cash usage discussions, draws me like a moth to the flame…

They want to get rid of cash so that EVERY transaction is taxed.

Don’t let them do it, do like I do, pay cash for your weekly supermarket shop (and restaurants etc.)
I go to the ATM and withdraw the money before going in.

Surely not, tax us? Noticing the cash only barber I'll go to tomorrow is something like £13.50 so everyone gives £15.... £1.50 a cut is never declared... sure that would never happen
