A few of us just hang around, like a bad smell

 

Hey I prefer to be called a bad penny, although smell is probably more appropriate.

 

I wouldn't like to see a restriction of topics on AT as I think it might do more harm than good. I do think they some people should be told to calm it down or leave. But I think the best suggestion is by eggs that maybe Steve can stop lounge topics being shown in unread posts. That should keep everyone happy.

So to sum up the main news from last week: Terrorist attacker kills 22 at concert attended by many children. 8 people have been arrested so far.

 

Is this not a reasonable topic for discussion in a thread called "making the news today"? Are the motives of the attacker not a reasonable topic for debate?

 

I get this is a website dedicated to trees. However we've also got familys and we do things like go to concerts in our spare time.

 

I've a question for the people that want to ban discussions: Would you allow discussion on politics/ religion/ terrorism if it was an arbtalk user iinjured in a terrorist attack?

if you look at "the lounge" the threads are rarely posted on. Apart from this thread the most recent post was three days ago...

 

To continue the pub analogy, if it wasn't for this thread "the lounge" would have been boarded up years ago.

If you disagree with someone's reasoning, call it out, try to change their mind.

 

This is really important stuff. Any workable solution to this mess is very likely to be very uncomfortable to a great many people.

 

Banning discussion of these solutions (on a forum where discussion of religion and politics is invited) because they are uncomfortable is wrong and a dangerous precident to set.

 

Once again, it is vital that we talk about these things.
