BBC Radio 1 will not play the original version of Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl this Christmas, because its audience may be offended by some of the lyrics.

The station said young listeners were particularly sensitive to derogatory terms for gender and sexuality.

It will instead play an edited version with different lyrics sung by MacColl.

But the 1987 original will still be played on Radio 2, while 6 Music DJs can choose between the two versions.

Money for military AI etc

The defence secretary says it will make sure the armed forces do not fight "yesterday's battles".

Quote

The money will fund space and cyber defence projects such as an artificial intelligence agency, and could create 40,000 new jobs.

Quote

A new "space command", which will be capable of launching a first rocket in 2022

Space command & rockets? part of operation moonshot maybe?

& a job for  fatima after all ?

It looks like good old fashioned keynsian economics, couple this with the decision to go ahead with HS2, renewable energy etc.and devaluation of the pound post the referendum  the government will spend its way out of depression.

Just let's hope UK Ltd. can pick up the baton and run with it without dropping it to China Tech or Trumptown.

@Stere did see another write up on this by a defence consultant- viewing tbe Armenia Azerbaijani conflict, some of the new aerial tech is now completely invalidating current armour / soldier concepts, serious chance of us pissing away huge monies on pointless kit.  K

This is such an invented story, they did a revised version in 1992 using the word haggerd instead of faggot. This has been the normal version played on radio for 25 years.

But it’s news now and those looking for outrage have latched on to it.

You’ve been played @kevinjohnsonmbe

Of course it’s been the same for years, I’ve listened to it for years.

Even had it played by the Black Fridays who were our wedding band!

Black Friday are a high energy folk and celtic punk rock band from Cornwall in the United Kingdom

Its the same sh1t every year.

Just like the dog in the Dambisters.

Every year the same from the BBC, every year the same ‘outrage’ from Victor Meldrew.

It’s become as ‘traditional’ as turkey & stuffing. ??
