A couple of educated guesses:

Syria isn't going to go well, sorry, it is going to continue to be bad.

A lot of asylum seekers / refugees from all the other conflicts in the area and a handy route into Turkey are going to see a lot of displaced people fleeing for their lives, probably arn't going to go back south into Iraq / Lebanon... So the EU might to step in to calm things down (politically asylum seekers are 'bad' in Europe politics)... but the potential for Russia and The Ukraine to ramp up again in the spring might make them reluctant to commit resources (how convenient for Russia... a friend of Syria... divide and conquer).

US... that is a bit of a wildcard, Trump doesn't like wars, tricky to save face with (and he doesn't have any business interests there), not sure if Biden will step in this side of Christmas and send troops out there - that never sounds good.

So without big outside influence, the current regime is likely to fall quite quickly and will be sorted out within the country rather than the west meddling.

Just my guess, but it is a an unstable region of the world.

😳Thats some synopsis of the current strategic and tactical situation on the ground. You must have an extensive understanding of all things military.

No problem SP, I thought you were after a bit of engagement after the post elsewhere this morning . Anyway it’s always good to hear from arbtalk’s resident Von Clausewitz, what is your military background by the way SP ?😞

Dave mate, you're boring! What is your weird little fixation with Stephen P's military background? It really doesn't matter. You're killing this, your own, thread here. Time to let it go now, move on. Share your thoughts on something relevant to the thread subject instead. Syria situation, this storm, the murder of that US insurance CEO, Romania, there's plenty to go at currently. The reopening of the Notre-Dame. The French have done a cracking job to get that sorted in just five years. The craftsmanship and skills involved is amazing. What do you think?

Paris's Gothic cathedral has been painstakingly returned to its former glory. Here's how it was done.

I think Assad is/was propped up by Russia and Iran.

I was wondering if Putin had  orchestrated the Hamas attack on Israel to divert resources from Ukraine and the US reaction was to then foment  trouble for Assad, again to put Russia under pressure.

Are any conflicts on this planet not proxy wars between more powerful nations?

TBH I doubt that.

To quote someone or other..

If you think there’s some sinister hidden force controlling world events, there isn’t, it’s more frightening than that, nobody has a clue what’s happening or what’s happening next.
