Yep, today if all goes well... been interested in this stuff all my life and follow it closely, ish, tbo I'm more than slightly disappointed that it's taken so long.

 

I've got to add that I'd be surprised if the Chinese and particularly Spacex don't beat them to the goal of some kind of moon residency👍

I do have to wonder if the huge sums of money couldn't have been spent on earth.

 

Space stations, telescopes and satellites are atleast just above our atmosphere. That's before we get to Elon and his constellation of satellites, which aren't we and a few other countries also wanting to recreate in some weird garbage patch?.

 

The original moon landing was a big statement 66 years between flight and the moon. It does smack of the opening scenes from Iron Sky - the first four minutes.

Totally take your point on space garbage.. the real danger is that we may make it impossible to go up through it without collision trapping us here.

 

As far as money is concerned, I can imaging that many think the money is wasted and maybe it is .. but not as many $'s that's wasted threatening, killing each other or stockpiling stupidity, cheers.

The U.S.military budget is more than 30 times that of NASA's. IMO space exploration is definitely not a waste. The technological advances from space technology also filter down to the consumer level, along with military advances too so there are other advantages to the mahoosive spending. 

 

I might not have explained that very well but I imagine most people get the gist.

 

At least it keeps a lot of people in work if nothing else.
