That's a fairly decent day rate , how much are you paying your top climber per day ?

Currently a basic monthly salary of 1500euros net for both main climbers who each have just 2 years experience but are productive and bring great energy and innovation to our business.

I'll expect them to be on around 1800 in a couple of years.

Bonus paid twice a year based on profit.

Tax free company savings scheme, annual contribution by employee 300euros, employer pays in 900euros.

Takes 5 years to mature though.

Sub-contractors 150-180 for small domestic hedge and tree work plus landscaping with a bonus for larger or more difficult trees.

How did you arrive by that figure? I had me concerns one year I might jump a tax bracket, the thing is you only pay the high band on what you earn over.

So for example if you earn 41k up to 40k you pay 20% then on the 1k over you pay 33%

I rather earn the money and pay tax than not earn it.

Yes, the band system is pretty straight forward. The point I made was a husband & wife team/partners/whatever you want to call it is efficient.

If you took two salaries of £45k you would end up paying roughly 14k each in taxation.

If you took salaries of 11k and dividends for the rest (2016/17) you end up paying around £9k each total taxation (Inc corp).

If you took a £90k salary as an individual you'll be paying around £36k total taxation.

At the end of the day you are your 'income' is still 90k but you take home is considerably different.

The tree work industry basically pays itsself a low wage. Work is massively unpriced.

The market needs to raise prices, thus raising wages for both business owners and employees.

It used to pay much better than it does now, but there are far more people at it now.
