Petzl alvio here ,had a number of vertex, the old style kask and the pfanner protos and the the alvio for me is the lightest and most comfy full helmet I've worn ... Of course every one has different shaped heads though !! I hated the protos with a passion , very poor rated hearing protection and it actually gave me a head ache from its pressure points but then I have long hair and I'm told is designed for short back and sides.

i'll check the brand tomorrow. got a box full of 500 on ebay a few years ago, think they will last me a while. They are 37 snr, better protection than any of the ear defenders currently on the market

you wont go back to muffs after switching!!!

I know you have championed ear plugs for years Steve but I recon if I would of stayed using them I would of torn both my ears off by now ! There is a lot of protection still offered by the outer shell.

Of all the things climbing related I've bought since back end of last year, a helmets not one of em..

So bin reading this thread with interest... couple of things to note..

Safety glasses rather than visor, and ear muffs... I can't stand anything stuck in my ears, and didn't think about a visor catching branches and becoming an annoyance..
