Alternative to the ART Rope Guide?

It's not exactly news that using a frictionless anchor increases wear on the hitch cord.

A pulley at the top doesn't remove friction from the system, more displaces it from the anchor point to the hitch (it has nowhere else to go).

Sure, your hitch cord will wear quicker (unless you use a tough cord like AP) but your rope will likely last longer, never mind your body!

Also I wouldn't have been that happy about my anchor point in that tree!

I was thinking more as an extra safety precaution as much as wear an tear, on the body or tree LOL..

Anyway, this got me thinking this afternoon, about pulley savers.. hows about a lightweight pulley about six inches across, that you can wrap a rope round twice, with a cam system that works one way...

On the way up it free wheels, on the way down it catches on a cam (I think thats what they're called) an the friction of the doubled rope comes into play..

The branch Richard was hanging off was commented on in the comments section, he said its a branch he uses a lot and he has total trust in its ability to hold his weight..

Yes....the Pulley saver is retrieved from the ground. The Rope guide is better finnished indeed. For some reason i like to set my anchor and see the green pinto rig...sort of a comforter when i see the blue tongue running through it.....but that's me. I am a creature of habit and very ritualistic.

The other advantage of the rope guide is one section of it is also a fall arrest system so when/if you fall off your pirch it's going to lessen the shock loading on your gear and body.

I've not got the cacoon on mine and it comes out no bother from the ground as long as you pay attention and put it in right Excellent bit of kit and worth the money.

This actually happened to my mate , the tear away saved his ass big style , ironically he never uses cambium savers either ... Rather be lucky than good :001_smile:
