How weird, will give it a try. I think possibly the band wore quicker due to some sawdust wedging the band closer to the clutch drum than it should have been.. Or something.

Just test started mine with the break on, usually have it off. Fired first pull and hasn't run since last week. Was thinking if you starting it with it in and giving it a couple of revs it might be causing the wear?

Erm yes? Why would you start a saw without the brake on?

Mechanical sympathy . I never do . Just me .

Not just you Stubby, I guess most of us oldies don't start with or rev up and test the chain brake.

Oh that drives me nuts , revving it and snapping the brake on !  Don't think my first saw had a brake , just a hand guard .

Yes only ever done it during re assessments. J621 double trigger had a bit of plastic riveted to top of saw as handguard.

Yeah I guess its just how chainsaw safety is taught now. I can't see that starting the saw with it on would cause much wear as the brake is already engaged and the drum shouldn't move? But definitely revving and slamming it on. I've never worn one through like this before on a top handle, had a couple snap but not even near the drum.

Also cold starts/warm aren't much of a issue, it's when it's hot it can take 3 or 4 pulls sometimes. I'll try w/o the brake on but can't really suggest doing that to an employee for obvious reasons. It's not a major issue just an annoyance.
