An almost forgotten band /artist from the eighties, possibly because of the silly name, The The. 

They seemed to capture the feeling of being late teens early twenties when you’re waiting for life to happen.

Not quite as good as their more illustrious and successful angst ridden contemporaries like The Smiths and The Bunnymen etc. But meant a lot to me at the time. I went to Israel to work on a kibbutz and Soul Mining was one of the three tapes I took to play on my Walkman along with the Smiths and Bronski Beat. No wonder I had such a difficult time!

 

Anyway for one reason or another I only seem to be able to post the 12 inch version of Uncertain Smile which I don’t expect anyone to endure, but if you’re of a certain age This is the Day is worth a relisten, if only for the great accordion.
