its just what i have observed round our way young drivers don't seem to bother with fast cars as much when i were a lad under 25 i should have been banned but luckily never got caught there just doesn't seem to be the same passion for proper rear wheel drive fast cars that we used to have

Did some work on highways in summer and every day they were at least 5 smashed cones

 

never mind eye test at 65, try nearer 50, and as a driver at 55, I would support this, I thought it was just the lighting was getting bad as small print was getting harder to read, but surprise surprise, a trip to the optician revealed a need for glasses, catches everyone up, and piloting a ton plus weapon on the public roads, testing should be compulsory

 

 

I'd be happy to do retesting now (I'm almost 32) unfortunately I believe if someone's license was revoked quite a few would still drive.

Maybe I should have worded this better but my point was that it is the older members of society that seem to be the ones most likely to cause or have an accident.

 

Hearing and sight deteriorate with age (with most people) which is why I belive at 65 you should have to retest for a driving licence.

Insurers base premiums on risk , and older people pay less because they are safer ( premiums start to go up at 75+ ) it is not lack of skills , eyesight /hearing etc that is the problem ... it is the risk taking attitude of younger drivers that result in the big claims ...statistics prove this !!

I had a quick look on the AA's website yesterday, their stats say that young drivers are 5 times more likely to have/cause an accident than their fathers.

 

Also I doubt many of us that have been driving for 20-30 years or more would pass a driving test if we were tested to the same standard that we were when we passed our tests.
