All you guys that are putting boxes on non-tipping pickups are going to get seriously ill or dead from shovelling chips out!

Educate yourselves.

More likely to happen with a tipper than a non tipper as you shovel out fresh chip every load with a non tipper but only shovel out the corners of tippers once in a while, stinking orrible job

What are the insurance implications of all your diy chip boxes? When I got insured on my truck they needed to look into the coachworks company who built it before saying that it was ok to be insured. I would assume that diy boxes need to be checked off somewhere for people's insurance to be valid?

Good point. Pretty sure your not allowed to build a whole tipper body but not sure if this applies to greedy boards or extended sides?

I was under the impression that it was the tipping gear and sub frame that needed to be type approved, adding high sides is affectivly part of the load or a way to hold the load in place while travelling so no different you strapping a box to the bed full of parts.

If you look at small print on insurance and liability its says " insecure loads not covered" now that can cover a wide range of modifications .

Has per normal this will only show up when things go tits up !

You can build anything you want as long as it is "Construction and Use" compliant.

If you jam a couple of greedy boards in then they will probably be considered part of the load. If your sides and or roof are intended to be part of the vehicle (attached in any way) they are going to be part of the vehicle and as such be subject to C and U

For instance my Transits (when I was in the UK and here) have a welded up framework and board closing it in, as have many of us, if that is in contravention has any tree company ever been prosecuted?

Do you declare to your insurance company your vehicle as been modified?
