Making spikes more bearable

I have a good amount of climbing with spikes on. My shin is taking a hammering. Is there anything that can help with the friction on that top part as its hurting the front inside of my shin.

 

I was thinking of using foam as in insulating for pipes cut and tied on to the spikes with tape?

What spikes are you wearing?

Anything with leather can rub badly, especially when wet.

I've been on alloy geckos with hard legs, loads of padding with Velcro straps for about 6 years.

They are like your Sunday slippers compared to bashlins.

i have recently got a pair or scarfell's which are like torture in spikes compared to my old treeme big boots. interested to hear what people say

Geckos are the way forward in my opinion carbon fibre or ally. I have tried out many but none have come close to comfort. Had a old pair of bashlins and found just a piece of fleece from an old jumper made life a little more bearable but if I were you I'd consider in investing in a new pair. I know it's money but £230ish for 10 years uses is well worth it.

as others have said the geckos are really comfy( well in spike terms!).

i think you may be able to buy pads separate, might fit your spikes?

Mine were too long for my little legs so I had an inch taken off the shafts now they tickedyboo

Ally bashlins with the Velcro tops for me...very comfy.

Had my distels stolen which were ok but not as good as the bashlins.

The twisted shank ones are also good with the metal shin pad...bit heavy but comfy for ringing out, don't think they sell the metal pads anymore

I remember the years I spent in buckinghams....a few hours ringing down a big trunk was torture at times. The geckos are a luxury and worth every penny
