Silky saw sharpening

I heard someone say that it is possible to sharpen silky saw blades.

Is this true?

Has anyone done it and how?

Can gomtaro and natananko blades be done?

Would save us a fortune if you can.

It can be done, can't think where to get the files. Only problem I can see is that you could begger a blade beyond belief if you don't get it bang on

I bought the cheap silverline diamond coated feather edge files from amazon about 4 quid each so I have never lashed out on the expensive ones above. I have had a bash at sharpening about 5 silkys and file still seems to work, as do the saws but not as good as new.

 

 

If you look at the video you will see the chap explain that the tooth profile is a normal saw tooth but in order for it to only cut on the pull stroke a small ramp is formed on the top of the tooth

 

I found it often enough just to touch up this small ramp on the top of the point with a couple of light strokes

The natanoko & gomtaro are not supposed to be sharpened, as they are impulse hardened in the manufacturing process.

Some

I, like the sugoi & ibuki are not & can be. I use a feather file from silky. However, as stated previous it maybe possible with a diamond file to sharpen other blades

Good point Pete....the Nakanoto is hardened.My personal favourite.Do get a long blade life

The impulse hardened blades should last three times longer , i never thought about sharping i need the best for my fifty year old arms.

Is that the one with the old boy demonstrating? Seem to remember him saying there are 3 different angles to sharpen.
