We run 3mm square stihl cord through our autocut 4 line head. We did it as a trial at the start of the season and have just bought a massive roll of it for the season but a 30 metre roll has lasted us from march until now through heavy grass, nettles, docks, etc.

Get a flail on that stuff or a Wheeled Strimmer.

Most of our commercial customers use 2.7mm Stihl red square line for cutting bridlepaths etc appears to be best size for durability and clean cutting , mainly used on an FS460

Anyone seen or used the bresser heads and lines yet, if so how are they to use.

Ive been using that over the last week after our suppliers recommended it after been a bit sceptical at first its turned out to be very capable as you say durable and clean cutting ours is used in the big km

I find that if you tilt the machine 45 degrees anti clock wise, you are not cutting across the fibres so much, but more along the length of the plant. That seems to help get through the tougher stuff. Also, if you are using an auto feed head, it helps to keep tapping the head, so the line is fed out quite regularly. This helps prevent the cord breaking where is leaves the head. Hope that's useful.

Fancy  a new roll for a 545rxt with a bump head for thick grass.

 

 

Only have some oregon Flexiblade left 2.65mm im using atm. Seems abit  fragile along stones & fences v others  but the saws edges works well on fat stemed weeds but seeem not the best line in thick grass....

 

I  seem to recall some  oregon nyluim was better on grass & the square yellow type also.

 

 

 

Thinking of trying either the 3mm stihl square yellow or maybe try  the 2.7mm desert stuff  as that seems to have alot of hype?

Will 3mm square be ok as in not to big for the   husky bump head eyelets?

 

Soft grass species thats fallen over trampled down is annoying takes alot  longer  than upright grass

 

 

Holcus lanatus  is the annoying one i think it  forms right dense mat when it falls over

8 year thread revival, nice! The diamond edge square stuff is amazing, better than oregon flexiblade.  I use 4mm string in a fixed oregon jet fit head rather than a bump head.  You'll find that bump heads cant take as thick a string as fixed head ones.  When using the bump head, I use the thickest diameter string the manual says it can handle.
