  1. Great on a 16" 241. Cheap too :)
  2. At least they managed to put a spiral around 1 of them.
  3. Newark to Grantham area. If someone offers you a 1 day ols MS241 and Husq 445 saw .....rest assured, they are worth the £50 they want.
  4. we use the Stihl sprayers.....very comfy ( esp the 18L). Relatively cheap - unlike CP. Lasted us 2 years doing highways and forest work.
  5. Hi, Anyone got any good experience with them?? I would like some, just not sure how far the tech. has gone. Any help appreciated!!!! Thanks
  6. Got hold of some parallel timber hooks, worked a treat. After moving 120 of them, i'm pretty sure it is 75% lead, 25 % granite in there!!!! Never thought of improvising with a ratchet hook though....bugger!!
  7. I recently looked at the Toro range. They appear to be up to it and within budget. Worth considering maybe??
  8. Yes, I was going to use those as a backup. Checked earlier and they have *vanished*!! I see Stanton and FR do the timber version, but, at over £20 it's a little pricey!!
  9. Hi, Does anyone know where I can get the hooks for shifting the beasts??? To clarify, its a giant fish hook with a T-handle. Needed ASAP in either W.Yorks or the Newark/Worksop area. Any help appreciated!!!!!! Cheers.
  10. I paid about 1500 all in. Prices vary soooooo much though!!!
  11. Hi, I have FB accounts for the business, both personal account and business. (search Thorndene Forestry in FB). I have used the personal one since day dot and the business one I set up recently. My website links to the personal. Can I transfer all the personal site to the business site and alter the website link?? Or upgrade the personal site to business?? Hope this made sense!!!!! Cheers.
  12. Anyone used a strimmer for the rougher jobs
  13. Looked at the Grillo one. Are they as good as they seem?? Unable to get a demo from dealer. Reluctant to buy not knowing if its practical.
  14. Im sure that this heat has an adverse effect on the cord. Last week it was grey, drizzly (torrential) and about 15C lower. Cord fared a lot better then. Snapping at the eyelet is just from asking too much from the cord!!
  15. Correct, absolutely no blades allowed on site as they fling stones out, whereas cord doesn't. (WTF??) Yes, top tip.....keep the revs as high as possible when cutting woody stuff. I find the best way is to lift out and up then drop the head on to the weed at full revs. . . . It will cut what it can. Leave the rest.
  16. Update : 545RX is the way to go Better balanced, comfier to use, lighter and cheaper than Stihl IMO. Sorry this is a bit late, just wanted to test the Husky out properly!! Cheers
  17. Hi, Thanks for all your replies!! This is an extreme photo, but hope you get an idea of why we were struggling!! We have battled through today with the Oregon Nylium 3.5 square and a polycot/tricut head. Dealer has 3.75mm Nylium in so will give that a test tomorrow. First thoughts, tri cut head great for woody stuff, useless on grass....cord OK on woody stuff, ace on thicker grass. Got some diamond edge on order so will see how that fares too!! Cheers
  18. No guard is not an option either!! Seen it done on plenty of occasions. Then seen that company get booted off sites for it!! 4mm cord on the 545RX would slow revs down far too much to work due to the density (See FB link on website). FS410 is only rated to be fit with 2.7mm cord!! Thanks for helping though
  19. Hi, As the title suggest, we are looking for a full time employee(s) able to get to Bradford for a 6.30 start. Ideally should hold CSCS card. Mainly for strimming and spraying works. Long hours and hard work with a good set of lads. For right person(s), full time employment will be offered. I stress, must be able to get to Bradford, BD4 for at least 6.30 am. Either PM on here or better still send CV/questions/a smiley face to: info at thorndeneforestry dot co dot uk. Thanks for reading. Rob
  20. Hi, I run Husky 545s and Stihl FS410s and was wondering which 3mm line you would use?? It's for grass and woody weeds all intermingled for 9 hrs/day. Blades (plastic or metal) aren't an option due to site rules. We have used Stihl yellow square, Oregon red round and Husq Whisper Red. All soaked in water. All superb on the thick grass, none much use on the woodier weeds. Have used the 'Jet Cut' style heads in the past and found them to be sh...... Anyone got a favourite or a secret tip?? Cheers in advance. Rob
  21. Repeated treatments with Round up work just fine.
  22. Just a thought, but, there may be employees out there looking for the time off work whilst getting paid?? Even if that employee previously seemed to be a *good* employee with good attendance, good graft and improvement. (sorry if 'good' was over used there.) The 'Jeremy Kyle Syndrome' I believe it is known as.......
  23. Get some high res pics of the net. Print them and laminate them. Does the job!!!!
