Stub axle sheared. Prolonged over loading of the machine is really biting me in the arse at the moment, this is the third major breakdown in the last two months. Sharp lesson learned I can confirm!

Is the supplier helping you out at all? Not many of these out working in this country and you seem to have had more than your share of issues!

He is pretty good to be fair. These stub axles had been identified as a weak point, so he had preempted them failing and sent me two new uprated ones. Even if I have to wait for parts to arrive it usually takes about a week to ten days so not bad really. 

 

I've so far had to have rear cross member repaired, snapped the t-piece that holds the two sperate parts of the machinetogether and now sheared the stub axle. Believe it or not I actually have a fair deal of mechanical sympathy! I think I'm just on a run of bad luck, and as mentioned overloading the machine previously is now coming back to haunt me.

A close up of the snapped shaft should show if it was previous damage and then a fatigue crack leading to a complete break.

@IronMike  nature of the game really, Forestry stuff gets loaded / stressed 110%, which finds the weak link in anything , same with military kit . One test is go up on Salisbury Plain in winter , throw kit ( Tank , lorry , 4x4, AT missile etc ) in a bog , to freeze overnight then pull it out next morning n see if it works !

We always say things break in 3s... So hopefully that's you done for a while [emoji23]
Had nothing interesting myself bar fellas bringing me saws "there's something broken with this it won't cut at all, buy whatever parts it needs".... Unfortunately I can't replace the operator who repeatedly dulls the chain and can't figure out why cutting roots & muddy timber is having any effect [emoji2357]
