but the majority of their time is takne up harassing people with generally pretty safe vehicles breaking stupid rules i.e eveyrone's 3.5t tippers that are overloaded, they take 4t+ perfectly safely it really doesn't matter...

But the law for a 3.5 tonner is 3.5 tons:confused1:

If the law was changed to 4.5 tons, then it would be easy to say it wont matter if you grossed 5 tons?:001_rolleyes:

I know several hgv drivers and mechanics and it goes on a lot there are ways to stop these things. And a 50t artic is nothing to worry about, some of those units are built to haul twice that and do elsewhere. But that's all irrelevant the real point is they hardly ever stop 'accidents waiting to happen' just give people Grief over minor problems....or not, I got checked in a Vito a while back which had the brakes hanging out of it, no pads left and seriously scored discs to match, bug all 4 of them noticed was a cracked indicator lense!

So if we see you on the road u will either be in your overloaded tipper or your vito with no brakes.

A scan of the prosecutions in the trade press will tell you exactly how it would be.

Every “dodgy” in creation would see it as open season, a driver pulling a double with many tons of truck in piss poor order on the roll down the streets your loved ones use.

If VOSA is the price we pay for preventing that I am all for it.

That's the problem, people like you who think that's it's all good, they are great and there keeping our roads safer. Do you honestly believe that? They are a shower nit picking jobsworths, that think they know the in's and out's of everything when it comes roadtransport.

Or could it be that the problem is people like you who think the opposite? No rules system is perfect but it’s probably better than no rules at all.

What would you do to improve the situation, is a free for all the answer, If people like Billy will run overloaded with no brakes in the face of enforcement what would they get up to if there were none?

Your tag line reads

If you don't like how things are, change it!

Soooo, what have you done to change it???????

err 3.5 tonner is 3.5 tonnes which is 3500kg

it is NOT 3.5 tons which is ~3556kg if using long tons or ~3175kg if using short tons (AKA: Ton US)

Vehicle weights in the UK will normally be expressed in KG, Tonnes or Ton (long) generally rounded to the nearest whole 10kg in the case of long ton so e.g. 18 ton when expressed in law instead of being 18288.84438kg would be 18290kg.

That is why some vehicles and trailers seemingly have odd maximum gross weighs when expressed in KG given there law is relating to them is old and based on “ton” ware as newer laws or ones relating to Europe use tonnes & KG. ;)

Well how about using common sense When enforcing these law use some discretion. All these laws are supposed to be there in the name of road safety, I see it more as a excuse to make vast sums of money, I have driven a lorry in nearly every country in Europe for over 10 years, and I have never seen vehicle enforcement on a scale like it is in the UK.

How do other country's get by without such strict laws and fines.

And as far as changing it I have by not driving long distance at all anymore, thats the only way to stay legal. It's a minefield of laws that change without notice nor warning. People like me has experienced it first hand, and am not talking running up and down a local road, in a transit with an Ifor Williams worrying about a cracked number plate.

Hmmmmn

Go on then, I am intrigued. What vehicles? Just so I don’t buy the wrong one:thumbup1:

The recent toyota brake failure issue, I imagine the authorities didn't believe the first few.

" It wasnt me sir, it was the car"

"So you admitting you was not in control of the vehicle then"

Followed by appropriate fines until post crash investigation revealed gremlins.

Plus how many recalls are there? Its a fact of life, imperfect people make imperfect things and a vehicle of any type has a lot of components. Clarksons Ford GT had alarm and electrical problems.
