Bit off topic I know but in the last 6 months I've had a lot of contact with local authority due to my boys disability. I'm completely go smacked at how bad it's run. There out of touch mostly incompetent idiots who can make a complete cock up of something and still get a slap on the back by there senior manager who is equally incompetent. It stinks

sounds pretty rum ay

going forward it might be an idea to stipulate that any applications/ notifications of works will only be pursued after the quote has been accepted its what i've allays done and if they choose to change their mind after signing the acceptance they have to pay our expenses as per the schedule of rates set out on the terms and conditions ie: office hours, mileage, sight hours and equipment hire costs etc,

its important as professionals we have written clearly laid out T's & C's so that every one knows where they stand, its what helps us stand out from the cowboys, but like i said in the beginning it seems pretty dam low of the council, disgusting in fact, is the client still going with you regardless?

This is how it works ... they can undercut , not buy asking the client the old ' Whats been your best price' no need, with everything paid for , tools, equipment , holidays, ppe. the client just gets given a stupid low price, thats it. The so called LA tree , what should we call him, ??? tree person, often its just some body on the council with no qualifications above level 3 in charge of Arb who landed the job as a boy into dead mans shoes, who by then just by getting the job gets a big uppy from his shiny arsed council line manager who is more likely to have a level 3 qualification in Green keeping  they all have no concept of pricing real jobs, ..... because they don't live in the real world, even in house tenders are banded around only to those within the tight group who know how it works taking turns to get the work. i have worked for the LPA so know fist hand what goes on. going back to the pricing, they normally tag all the private work onto or close to a council job anyway and then if the private job goes over, tag those hours as council work to the council job , which they do not have to price for.

I saw a programme on corruption in Mexico some time ago, it was to do with the drug wars.... Lots of nasty stuff going on and people in positions of authority making a killing (literally)

When I read about this practice happening over here I realise that Britain has been in the corruption business a lot longer than places like Mexico ... Africa etc.. After all it was Europe that exported corruption to the developing world in the first place.

What this very depressing thread tells me is that over here we're much better at it than the Mexicans etc..

Much more subtle.. Much more protected...

Whatever happened to ethics??

Whatever happened to integrity??

Did we ever have it in the first place?

Very sad to read that this is happening.... I hope the people involved get called to account for it.

Well this LA corruption (sounds like a Richie Blackmore song) looks really bad, it almost looks like TPO work isn't worth doing.

If the council don't nick it from you there's always the 'snipers' who read the local papers and see no problem with competing any way they can.

There are R soles everywhere - all you can do is keep your own principles and get on with it as best you can.

if anyone cares to check up, they will find that every "councill" in the country actually has 2 setups, the councill, with all its restrictions and rules, and the councill ltd, a private corporation run purely to make a profit, thats how they can get away with all the underhand things they get up to
