Fred was great entertainment for sure , but I don't do chimneys , dodgy scaffolding or long skinny ladders or high roofs either .

Give me a nice tree to hang on to and my trusty climbing gear any day . And as for flat caps , I prefer a helmet .

Its not about fearless, fearless is foolish and often ends up dead

That man simply has confidence in his equipment and ability

I agree. To those that climb high and or hard. And like extreme sports, the participant can never really explain to those that do not with any real meaning, why they do what they do, nor how they do what they do.

The non participant may often express the notion that the other is mad or has a death wish. But not so. Without a similar determination in an endeavour so hard and or arduous, the non participant will never truly be able to understand.

I climb rock for fun. Sometimes it's roped, climbing with others. Sometimes it's free climbing, just me and the rock. Due to a non related injury, I no longer climb as hard as I used to. It depresses me, that I will never again climb at that grade. As graded climbs go, I was never up there with the gods, never acclaimed for my achievements, (I would not have been interested in that). The longest non roped vertical drop, with just air between me and the deck, was only 273m, so you can see i never really climbed anything hard. But I still enjoy some free climbing, as I do roped climbing with friends and family.

I think they need to do a Fred Dibnah challenge to commemorate the great man. I think this climb in Darwen would be a suitable task if you could find someone mad enough to even put the ladders up.

Ha good on ya for finding India mill John!

Couple o scoops at dinner for Fred then up aloft..👍
