Clever Idea

Farmer friend was showing me a chainsaw he had just bought off ebay - brand new Husqvarna lookly likey but what was clever was the plug spanner was stored in the underside of the handle and you just popped the screwdriver end out, rotated it downwards and then slide out side wards. very clever and at least you would always have your spanner with you.

Stihl and Husqvarna need to catch up with that one!!!

(i) What exactly IS a Plug spanner?

(ii) And why would one require access to one during a days cutting?

just saying like.

The "Plug spanner" is also known as a "Combi spanner" and is used to tension the chain, unfasten over tight fuel caps and remove the clutch cover.

I would certainly not want to be far from one when using a saw.

(i) A plug spanner is a metal device formed in the shape of a 'T' where one leg of the 'T' can be used to remove the plug by rotating it. The second horizontal leg forms another sized socket and the vertical leg terminates in a screwdriver.

(ii) You may find the second socket/screwdriver combo useful during a days cutting to adjust the chain tension or even replace the chain having hit the barbed wire fence that was next to the tree 30 years before you got there. Also a handy object for throwing at sleepy groundies! ;)
