Tree Topping

My neighbour has some trees at the end of the garden that block a lot of light from coming into their house. As I frequently fell trees for firewood they asked me if I would do it. However, the trees are on land that belongs to the farm behind our houses and as a result they only have permission to take the tops off so that they are the height of the ones next to it. I am on good terms with the land owner and have asked him whether he wants them to look good or whether he doesn't mind and, as he no longer lives in the farm house and he had to put the trees there when his brothers haulage company was there, he said he doesn't mind how they are done.

Anyway, I just wanted to know if it is alright to just take the tops of trees off or if it will hurt the tree. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do it would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

My advice would be to hire a pro.

I suppose it depends on the tree, location, removal of arisings, cleanup, is it being chipped or burnt?

Do you have any pictures of said trees? so that we can see and be in a better place to offer advise on the quote.

I am away from home at the moment. i will post picks this weekend. The tree can only be seen by us and the neighbours as the farm house is no longer lived in. I have access to a big chipper that i will use and then we will be putting the chips on the garden. The trees are in an unused farm yard so there is plenty of room around them
