Swifts and Swallows were flying round yesterday but it's a different day today with low cloud and they will have gone somewhere warmer to hunt I think. I watched a documentary about them a few years ago and some Swallows were fitted with trackers. When the weather was bad here they left the young ones in the nest and were found flying over Holland.

I didn't think this thread was so old

Just seen my first one of the year; a bedraggled specimen on a phone wire

There must have been sightings around the country earlier surely...?

I also heard a cuckoo just once last week; presumably it was passing through

Saw 1st swallow a fortnight ago, just passing through, resident ones now arriving. Cuckoo heard for about last week. We are high in Brecon beacons above Llandovery.

Plenty of swallows already breeding up here in the Cheshire/Derbyshire borders.

Just can't get the little buggers to nest in the boxes under the shed gutters, might try some wooden ones instead of the plastic/concrete ones I spent a fortune fitting.
