Spiders anyone ?

Can any tell me what spider this is or if it's in anyway a nasty one found it on some wood in my garden and might just be me but looks abit more than the average garden spider , cheers

Don't worry after taking the picture it did accidentally get squashed and no it was in my back garden i live just on the Leicestershire / Nottinghamshire border and It wasn't very big really bit over the size of a 50 p , just didn't look English to me
