To be fair, on LA contracts where thousands of trees are being inspected and worked on, a detailed work specification is unfeasible.

I also worked on contracts where 'general prune' was one of the common instructions. Actually, this can be ok as long as the scope of a 'general prune' is defined somewhere so everyone knows what it does (and doesn't!) mean.

On LA contracts you could simply use codes for each job, which are referenced in a tree works specification manual...

"General prune" was defined in our contract handbook as to perform remedial pruning as required. So, in essence, do what we feel is right. The only downside was that what we deemed necessary usually didn't turn out to be the same thing as the junior T.O.

Never did on the ones with proper specs either:sneaky2:

"make it look nice"

me "it looks nice as it Is."

"make it more Tree like"

Ends up becoming a mister men tree that I think looks shite but Boss and customer are pleased. Some days I work with idiots. Mostly I can get the customer to agree to the right thing.

One Boss really a gardener says to me how Tree workers think they are something special and doing minimal reductions are pointless and not good value for money. I tried explaining water sprouts looks unnatural. He will never get it
