Thanks mick! I was pleased with it. My dad and I have a guy from Kent wood turners club come out and show us how to do stuff. I really enjoy doing it.

Nice apple, its difficult to get a realistic shape, try an old twig at an angle as a stalk, and a clove in the other end they look very "real"

We have a few fruits we picked up at fair's. Apple made from an oak burr, lemon made from something yellow! An pear made from a Banksia's seed pod, and a few small cherries.

And another pear from Yew.

In a nice wavy edge spalted birch burr bowl

I fancy trying a banskia pod. I think they look great

They seem to be very expensive now..... I am sure Steve will put a name to the yellow wood, I hope so as I have some in the workshop and the label has gone!!!!!

Axminster sell them for £7 a pod now. I don't know how that compares to what they used to be that's the only place I've seen them

the yellow wood is usually pau amarello, euxylophora paraensis (americans just call it yellowheart) and is probably the most richly coloured but you can get a few other yellow looking woods if you look.

 

here are just some that can be a nice yellow colour.
