bowl turning thread

Been a while since I finished a bowl. Turned this bit of birch that had split badly. Considered getting some resin and filling them but decided it wasn't worth spending the money on it lol. Finished with Annie Sloane soft wax that I pinched off the wife but i quite like it.

mick, why are you not roughing out some bowls to finish when dry?

 

that way you can chuck the ones that have split badly on the fire and turn the good ones.

Don't know really. I've stored everything as blanks. Some I can see are better but sometimes I choose a poorer piece of wood for practice. I've just finished work for a couple of weeks so I should make an effort now to get some better ones roughed out

Turned this small piece of oak this week. Managed to sand and oil it today. Only 5 1/2" across

Nice transition from the flared sides to the internal shape. And camouflaged on the worktop. Looks good to me.

My first bowl out of a birch burr done a few weeks back. Still getting to grips with the lathe. Need to practice a lot more.

Made an apple today out of yew. Needs some oil on it but was to mentally exhausted at the end haha
