Anyone got experience of the above. Want a machine to use without tractor.

What's the stroke speed like? Someone on here said it doesn't have auto return? Is this right?

Does anyone have any video of it doing anything other than bouncing on a football. I mean a video of someone using it productively?

Cheers

It's that man again (btw, thats Tony Hancock to younguns)

Yes, I hired a Thor petrol engined road towable 13t capacity machine for a number of seasons.

Totally frustrating, deadly slow on the return and had to stand holding both levers to keep it returning.

The splitter head also kept falling off as it continually sheared the securing roll pin.

The shaft could have been shimmed to prevent this defect.

This was why I bought the PTO powered Krpan.

IT is very very good, at least for my needs.

very well painted too after a few seasons, no blemishs showing.

The only wee oversight design flaw I might pick up on is the inadequate location of the grease nipples for the slideing splitting head.

ps

Hired THOR WAS probably/almost certainly not a "Magic", as it would have been a basic low rent model for the hire market.

I guess you might have had the road tow farmer model. This is a more low rent version.

I was almost set on the mignon prof 11t petrol but the vids of it look too slow on the stroke. The magik looks quicker and prob easier for billets.

I'll pop up to riko to have a look at the balfor models. The leader system looks useful for billets though.

I have this one (I think - see image below - farmer 13t road towable) - would I get one again? Nope!

On the whole I would sum up as very well built but very poorly designed. Even the well built bit I would not endorse overly as had to get the main cylinder on the ram re welded after 2 years.

I wanted a splitter I could tow into place and get splitting - to get this working vertically is a real fiddle so have adapted a few thing on it to work better horizontally.

But looking at what other members say the other Thor models prob work better as I have only ever seen and used my one.
