4x4 tipper advise

You are spot on Chris, it's your opinion and your business model that you know and that's what's important. In this game you do whats best for you and sod the rest or whats cool. For me and my business then the 130 tipper is perfect, a transit won't get where I need it to go, an your iveco as awesome as it is (I did look into it). The best thing is look what's going to benefit you the best and take it from there:)

I can't think of any advantage a transit has over my defender, I can think of loads the defender has over the transit.

As for the iveco, it's no good having payload if you haven't got volume and you also have to have a huge turnover to make the capital investment pay

 

Break down and leak oil are 2 things a tranny doesn't do as much as a LR dean. :D

The new Isuzu having 3500kg towing weight is all well and good but most of the current pickups have 2wd/4h/4l on a switch on the dash. 4H can usually be selected on the move but to select 4L usually requires a stop.... This isn't practical in every day towing. I think I'm right in saying you can select low range in a land rover whilst moving at up to 5mph??

 

Imagine you are pulling out of a steep tarmac driveway onto the road with a sharp turn at the top, 3.5t in 2wd isn't much use, 4h gives traction but lots of clutch slip and the 4wd system on most jap pickups makes turning the corner a total PITA and you can feel the whole truck scrubbing as you turn! 4L is geared low enough but you have to be prepared to scrabble your tyres as you turn and then hold everyone up whilst you stop and select neutral then select 2wd before pulling away again!!

 

I have a jap pick up..... I find myself gazing longingly at Land Rovers!!

I drive the newer L200 and you can engage the 4 high while driving up to 50/60 mph so they say.
