The power company should always gladly do shut downs foc or the customer should have the right to charge the power company for obstructing there tree from being removed. Either that or they foot the bill and pay for any removals or works to every tree there lines are crossing.

 

As for a refresher these should be no more than a days re training at most as i get bored being taught what i leant 5 years ago.

 

If the AA had any real reason for being then it should be at the forefront of promoting not just its little club but every NPTC qualified tree surgeon in the UK or maybe we should all club together put some funds up for advertising etc and create a true industry representitive that looks after all tree surgeons that are qualified ????? sit on ya arse, dont moan when nothing changes.....

Thank you, my points exactly, it's about time this industry grew a set! The Americans have it down to a fine art, as do the Canadians! All those yarping on about the apprenticeship schemes, they do one, it's an employment basis 18 month course, yeah not much time, but it's a learn on the job, couple that with tickets and refreshers, you've got an industry standard! And I was told when I asked about refreshers, 'it's about a day, 2 if you're very rusty, and 3+ if you're crap', so given that, add an extra few quid per job, you'll recoup the costs well before your next refresher

Really good point about AA, I've no inclination to go accredited( or paper work skills!) but your right, would be good if they stood up for skilled/qualified treeworkers who aren't accredited , not quite sure where I'm goin with this.,..,,,

Oh I can, I just see too much gyppo work done by so called professionals, even worked for a few, I just would like to see a standard set, those who are against the refresher obviously have something to loose, but grandfather rights are gone next year too, so people may as well have the tickets to show. I'll gladly refresh next year, might learn something new! After all, I've worked with a fair few of those who've had tickets longer than I've been alive, I out cut em all, I do it safer and more economically, why? That's how we're taught

Yup but can you say you've never seen a messy job and thought 'why do people hire these morons?', I just think it makes our industry look bad, and on another note of looking bad, ax men is on itv4 on Monday, I wonder how many idiots will watch it and think 'I can do that!', drop a tree through something and push the insurance up?

No it wouldnt it would help them out!

 

Those that complied would have to increase their prices, those that dont wont.

 

There is never, ever going to be anything like a safe gas scheme for arborists so its not worth comparing the two or crossing your fingers hoping something magical will happen that will get rid of all those nasty cheap, tree hating morons who dare to price a job lower than me.

 

Why on earth I have to do a refresher course to cut down Mrs Smiths 10 foot leylandii is beyond me.

 

Maybe if I was fitting a potential lethal deadly device into her house to heat up her home then I can maybe see the point. (Especially since and I presume this) that it takes more than a couple of days of training to become a fully qualified corgi/gas safe engineer.

 

Telling me how to hold an 020 is not going to help me or my customers out very much.
