my manual says do not use WMO (waste engine oil) use proper chain oil instead coz it knackers the oil pump

since WMO and chain oil are bough mineral oils I cant see there being any difference

Who hear has used WMO and what problmes did you find

Your manual is quite correct.

why buy a perfectly good piece of kit and put crap oil in it................cant get me head round that.

 

Oh and using used engine oil aint very enviromently friendly is it.

That's right, the first identified industrial cancer was in boys used for chimney sweeping and it made a re occurence in young motor mechanics, it seems their sump oil covered overalls were causing scrotal cancers. It's the products of incomplete combustion such as the carcinogen benzo-a-pyrene that cause the problem.

 

In 1976 we were forced to use used sump oil and your clothes stank of it and were covered in arbrex thanks to the old skinflint that ran BCR. Luckily I only survived a few months.

 

I doubt the lubricity is much of an issue though increased acidity could be.

Not heard of anyone using old sump oil for years, but I believe it used to be quite common practice. Its dirty, bad for you, bad for environment, maybe old saws were more tolerant of it. Other than being free, it has very little going for it.
