a good mate of mine and free lance climber got stung when he injured him self on a job and crushed his hand, the guy he was subbing to didnt have insurance like he said he did so mate had alot of time of work with no pay. he still has problems with his hand/wrist now and has to put a wrist brace on for working and climbing.

be carefull

:confused1: why did he not have his own personal accident insurance, to cover his own accidents? How is it always someone else's responsibilty to pay?

Is a "self-employed" climber an employee???:sneaky2::sneaky2:

if they are employed to "climb" they are an employee in my opinion. If they are brought in to "wreck a tree out" they could be sub-contractors.

It's all thin ice & I just covered them as employees, as the courts would side with them no doubt

Makes no odds, they still have to be covered by employers liability

I know, just makes me laugh when people say they are "freelance" or a "subbie" and take the tax benefits of "self-employment" but not the draw backs :sneaky2:

When I was a subbie, I fell and was off for 2 weeks, never even crossed my mind to try and claim.
