Stick your hardwood where the sun don't shine

Sniff,

My "In praise of softwood" post got ignored:001_rolleyes: when I sung its praises as being easier kindled, and good hot burning.

The key to any wood burner is a few days supply toasting beside the stove.

If the room starts to get hazy:001_tongue:, it is generally a hint it is perhaps time to put in the stove.

Know just what you mean: I burn 90+% softwood at home but can I persuade customers to take more of it...? Not for lack of trying, that's for sure. They all want to plonk a lump of oak on their kindling!

Quotes from my softwood customers this week include 'this has revolutionised our home' 'Best stuff ever bought', letter of thanks to the 'Cutter and delivery driver' etc, it is so underated!

I may be wrong and probably am, but werent log burners invented in scandinavia where there is very little hardwood.

thats where the proper burners (morso/jotul) come from (i think!) so you aint far off the mark. I roll with a morso, currently full to the hilt with Maccy,nice:thumbup1:

Been burning some Beech I have been seasoning under cover for two years. Burned it for the last two month, not too bad but can only get the heat out of it if it's cut into small bits, good for over night burns.

So today I went down to the yard and got myself some nice leylandii

Yehaaaa, stoves glowing like a good un and only opened the vent halfway, kettles steaming away on top in minutes and I,ve had to move the settee away a little more. Just need to keep an eye on the flu temp so it doesn't,t melt my chimney stack

Why people disrespect softwood is beyond me.

Softwood....it,s the future...you can stick hardwood from now on

told you this yrs ago lofty, mixed is best

Leylandii is the future Mick...

You just need an efficient stove, you know...like a "Yorkshire" stove from Dunsley in Holmfirth

dunsleyheat website - Multifuel stoves

We Yorkshire folk know how to make em. Just like Jon knows how to make good Cider :001_smile:

Have to say- you need to get a decent stove that will burn both- thats what we do down south- learn son
