I was "reliabliably" told 30/35 or so year ago that combat medics from certain "ahem" specialized arms of the Service got combat medic training for real in the Glaswegian infirmery of a Saturday night.

Dr. "x" will stitch you now Sir/ set that compound fracture etc,

I presume under proper medical supervision.

Sounded plausible to me back then.

Anaesthetising pigs and shooting them in the arse then getting patched up by proper surgeons....? All sounds pretty humane to me....

Halal on the other hand...

Ḏabīḥah (ذَبِيْحَة) is the prescribed method of slaughtering all meat sources excluding fish and most sea-life per Islamic law. This method of slaughtering animals consists of using a well sharpened knife to make a swift, deep incision that cuts the front of the throat, the carotid artery, wind pipe and jugular veins but leaves the spinal cord and thus capacity to feel pain, suffering, and the feeling of death intact. The head of an animal that is slaughtered using halal methods is aligned with the Qiblah. In addition to the direction, permitted animals should be slaughtered upon utterance of the Islamic prayer "in the name of God". Muslims are taught through the Qur'an that all animals should be treated with respect and well cared for. Muslims[who?] claim that Islamic laws aim to keep the world ecology balanced in a stable and healthy way.

Doesn't seem very humane to me... in fact I'd go so far as to say it's deliberately inhumane, the polar opposite of what happens to the pigs by our surgeons.... So I reckon the analogy stands.... :001_huh:

yes but if the animal is having its throat cut severing the arteries the blood pressure would be lost instantly and the animal would loose conciousness pretty quickly or instantly so it wouldnt be that inhumane imo.

Just to add as far as i was aware the animals slaughtered in the uk in an abattoir have to be stunned before the bleeding procees can be carried out :)

If they went out for a night in Glasgow they could get the combat training as well!!

Cant believe there really is no other way to get serious trauma training , i've been known to be wrong though :001_smile:

I'm very happy with the concept of the first live one the medic sees not being one of my mates.

Yes, it's unpalatable, but no one ever said war was a pretty thing.

Trauma treatment has come on in leaps and bounds in the last 10 years, due in no small part to the work of Army/RM medics. As has already been said, this has translated to more lives being saved in emergency departments in British hospitals.
