That looks like a National speed limit road, 60 mph, if it is you can't use Give and Take, can you?

 

Depends on traffic density, length of work site and length of sight lines, got all the spec's in the new edition red book in each vehicle at the yard if you want.

From what a highway inspector was saying at 1 of our h&s briefings recently they are actually preferring give and take to having men in the carriageway with stop go board's as they are in the most vulnerable position at the ends of the work site. Of course traffic lights with convoy system to control speed of passing traffic or total Road closure are the ideal situation to increase workforce safety but not always practical and sadly not always economic.

Personally I would not want lads stood between the chipper and on-coming traffic, better to have the truck facing the traffic and the lads safely behind. This is one of the advantages of the mog with front chipper, when we spent 5 weeks on the hard-shoulder M65 with no speed restriction, I was very glad of the protection.

 

Obvioursly you cant go the wrong way down a motorway etc but you think its better for the lads to be at the front of the mog with 70mph traffic passing. The mog giveing a massive blind spot and the noise from road and chipper and only concentrating on someone with a pole saw cutting branches off? So cant see anything coming...

 

Id say it was better for the lads to be feeding a chipper at the back where they turn and walk to the back of the truck to chip so can judge the oncoming traffic and keeping up awareness.

 

Not just hiding behind a mog and thinking alls ok.

 

What happens if a lorry driver goes to sleep and veers off to the left? That would shove your mog a long way and flatten all the lads.

 

Least if they were at the back and aware of whats coming they would have a chance
