I see the LR on arbtrader has winches front and back - is this so you can stop the vehicle moving when winching? Do you have to do anything to anchor when using the winch, or does it just rely on the vehicles weight for most jobs?

We just have front winches but a rear winch is sometimes useful simply to avoid having to turn round or to get you unstuck the way you got in without another vehicle to help.

Not really the best idea to anchor yourself back with a winch, far better to use slings especially if you can run them under the vehicle and onto points on the front bumper close to the winch doing the pulling which helps avoid some of the stress on the chassis.

For most applications the mass of my vehicles is enough to hold them but sometimes I chuck in some wheel chocks to hold them.

On this particular occasion the step up off the road onto the grass verge was more than enough.

excellent, thanks - didn't think about stresses on the chassis (or wheel chocks)

Great day!

Up before dawn, felled 4 trees in a churchyard with a crane, 1 piece, 5 pieces, 4 pieces and 3 pieces, done in 3 hours with coffee break or two.

quick bonus job, picked up supplies, washed the truck, home to collect fishing gear, then the garage for some hotdogs, picked up my boy a hour early from nursery, went fishing and had the hotdogs for dinner at the lake
