i personaly think 3 cuts at the bottom would be better. i aint going to say more as i dont want to kick of another toppping/ pollard debate

It looks hideous, but its obviously been done for a reason, to preserve the tree, or at least make it safer than it was prior to the topping in the meantime......and if you look in the background there appears to be plenty of new planting going on for the future.

All depends on the species but that chestnut will be fine, I'd rather see a tree hacked than felled for no reason, but at least that tree will remain to creat habitat.

I try never to judge without finding out more because it could of been done in prep for a fell at later date or their might have been a split at the v union so they had to pollard or something who knows .
