Sorry but I own 3 Tanaka hedge cutters and they all get used and abused . They are all over 4 years old and the oldest is 6 and all start on the button . I use 2 for fine trimming and one for the rough hedges . Two of them are the long reach type . The Husky cutters I have are again good and start and cut great .My old Stihl cutters are still going strong and are over 10yrs old but a tad smokey  . I found shindiawa to be of good quality . Kawaski's I had died within a year :001_smile: Although for saws I would only have Husky , Stihl , Solo or Jonsered .

For hedgetrimmers all the japanese stuff echo tanaka etc blow stihl out the water, but by far the best hedgetrimmer i have used is the kawasaki, totally bomb proof, same with their blowers mine is 13 years old gets used everyday and has never cost me so much as an air filter. Echo hedgetrimmers we used to use did 2-3 years hard use then theyd start having carb problems but the Kasawaki keeps going.

Tanaka- have one of those too, bad starter but generally pretty good once its started although as has been mentioned never seems to cut quite as crisply as the K-wak.

Stihl- own one item and thats the ms200, had a hs81 and managed to snap it fairly quickly due to the gimicky plastic framing holding it alltogether.

I'll add my rant.... MS201t, gutless piece of tut, pull trigger wait a second then it revs........ I miss my ms200, nothing wrong with it either, the company wanted the last good one to keep as a spare saw. Probably for when the 201 dies or is thrown from a tree.

On the flipside, I have a ms341(or is it a 340?) from 1996 which is the cats pyjamas. Absolutley powers through, never misses a beat and I'll stake my house on it starting on the 3rd pull from cold.

MS201t

I've got two echo single sided hedgectters; both pictured in andys' thread. The older HC-2300 is nearing 15 years old and I took it out the other day having used the newer one for the last 2 years, thinking the old thing could do with a run. Put fuel in, two pulls and it started straight up and settled into a sweet idle. To me, that is pure quality. No carb problems here.
