I will be following this with great interest - I'm not that far away from the site of it myself. That is one hugely impressive tree.

 

Oddly enough, I've been using oak of a similar colour, also stained by iron, but in this case rather more modern.

 

Really good that the finished project will be viewable - I'll definitely be going to see it. Any ideas where yet?

Quick Project Update (more details will follow)

 

Tree has been Dendrochronogically dated as being 4,800 years old.

Planks are in a purpose made kiln. See photos here.

 

Target is too unload the kiln mid June.

 

Design process is currently underway with the Students of the Building Crafts College in Stratford playing a major role being mentored by a number of eminent British Furniture Designers.

 

Table will be made at the Building Crafts College in Stratford. We are hoping to allow the public to view the table being made, but are now working through the HSE issues to try and make this a reality.

 

Discussions are just kicking off with institutions who may wish to house the final piece and put it on public view. Confidential at present but we will share details as soon as possible.

 

Through personal contacts we have been extremely fortunate to have a documentary maker filming the project and are in discussions with a production company on potentially putting something together to be shown on TV.
