I tell you what gets on my nerves a bit when people quote a thread and just put a thumbs up or something. Say something! I've just gone back to a thread 'cos it's a new update and all you can do is put a emoticon.

(I know Rob enjoys my derails!)

Love em pal, love em:lol:

I think we're all guilty of that one to some extent:blush:

But sometimes an emoticon says all you want to say - so in that case why write anything?

It's no big deal really, but when there is a really hot thread and you refresh the page to find someone has put a new post, you hope that it will be something that will either warm, amuse or reinforce you views, irritate you beyond belief or give you a new and interesting take on it, instead you get the equivalent of a "like" on fb.

I find it a bit of a let down that's all.

I guess it's the follow instruction that is so important. If people can't follow written instruction on a job application/post then maybe they will be similarly non plussed with verbal instruction.

I'm sure I read somewhere of a large company that instructed application forms to be filled in black ink. The reason for this not being for photocopying purposes but that if they used blue then they were not following instructions and so may continue in this vein in the job. All consigned to WPB. Waste paper bin for any non civil servants/office types on here.

How important is it to follow instructions in this job? ....need I ask?

To flip things round a bit,

Over the years I've had employers (not naming names on here), not give clear instructions on jobs, locations,, kit needed etc. You turn up to a job at last minute as a subby, then they have the cheek to make it out it's your fault you didn't know what's going on, becasue as a subby, lets face it, some think you are theirs to talk to how they like and expect you turn up with a full forestry set up, be hammered on hours and to know exactly what they want from you. I'm not saying we should expect ti turn up and have written instructions on what needs doing and when, but sometimes the employer is as guilty for expecting subbys to be at their beckon call regardless of the circumstances.

I cancelled a job a few months ago to subby for soemone who was desperate, turned up on the day to have the old, oh, the jobs off, did nobody call you to let you know? Oh, sorry sbout that, well there go's 250 quid from my earnings then, cheers!

I suppose what I'm saying is communiction only works when it's both ways, just my 2 peneth  (had to stick an emoticon in).
