A Very British Affair today!

Good thread, you can't beat a good bit of pomp and ceremony.

Anyone feeling a bit antiestablishment should go read some history books while sitting under a veteran tree.

I wonder if the lack of Britishness felt in the Capitol is because too much of it could be considered rascist? It wouldn't be the first time.

I try not to get too nationalistic- it has caused too many problems in the past but I can't help myself- we had the red arrows in Folkestone on Saturday before they went to see the queen. Brings a lump to your throat!

They also sent down a Typhoon to show off over the beach- stunning plane and - yes I know it's not British but= moving with the times is a great collaboration

Please go read some history books :001_rolleyes:

I was going to leave it but this has me tickled. HISTORY that's all it is now, a once great empire owning half the world that we just gave back, look were that got us now!

We have a small piece of land, no Ireland exept a small part of it, the Falklands, and the small pieces of land dotted around the south coast. Even Scotland wants nothing to do with us.

We are a giant refugee camp.

Sorry but my patriotism is well and truly gone with this country and it's one massive joke and is being seen this way by every country in the world.

I have read plenty of history books and the blood spilt by our countrymen in the past means nothing now.

England has gone soft and it's now our weakness, if another country was to invade us we would just fold, our forces would be out fighting some duff war and not be able to defend our own country.

The monarch are spongers now, they make no decisions about this country anymore and should join the dole queue with every other sponger.

But hey that's my opinion and silky didn't want this thread to go this way so now I am leaving it. Make what you want from the royals but they do nothing now exept showmanship. And the queen is German anyway so maybe people need to recheck those HISTORY books......

what a splendid occasion!...a feat of organisation and great to see the British people turn out to show their respect for our Queen. The choir singing 'Rule Brittania' in the torrential rain made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!. A great day for Britain and the Commonwealth :001_cool:

What utter and complete unadulterated nonsense, IMO.

The fact that you think the St Georges flag is the flag of Britain just about sums up your understanding of history.

Even Scotland wants nothing to do with us.

Rich, your misinformed, as it stands now only 30% of the Scottish electorate want independance

Even if there was a huge turn of opinion and the people of Scotland vote for independance the Scottish Nationalist Party want to retain the Queen as the Queen of Scotland.

So to you she would be the Queen of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Union of the Crowns between Scotland and England under King James VI of Scotland (James I of England) predates the Act of Union by 100 years. So the Scottish and the English shared a monarch for a long time before the emergence of the United Kingdom.

Not that any of this matters as the Scottish people probably wont vote for indepenance unless David Cameron plays it wrong.
