Stihl 064 with a 25" bar. Practiced a bit with a tree surgeon for a weekend, then the first thing I did on my own was fell a 3' oak. Unfortunately the saw got scrapped when it destroyed its third pot and piston inside three months - this was when the problem with fuel life in unleaded was just being identified so it was assumed that the saw was the problem.

That was the first saw I bought; the first I ever used was either a 242xp or a Sachs Dolmar 113. The 242s were fast but the dolmars were gutsy and sweet.

Same here - first tree I ever felled was with a 242.

Husky 44, got it from a guy selling it out of the local paper when I was 14.

I had just done a weeks work experience on a local estate in the woods dept., and had been helping by fueling, oiling and sharpening. I even got to use a saw cutting laurel, so had to get one for myself!

Turned up at the guys house, got a lift from my mummy, tried to tell him i knew what i was doing and realised that i had never started a saw before, looked a right arse trying to pull it without my foot in the rear handle! a steep learning curve then followed!

Well mine was an old Husky, it did have a chain brake but thats about it!

After a while I traded it in against a 044 which I still use today.

Here are a couple of photo's of my friends fathers first saw, it cost him £40 and thats what he sold it to me for... bargain in my eyes
