i dont get how people say landrovers are unreliable ? ive had 6 over the last ten years and not one of them has let me down ? ,i reckon they get the reputation for being unreliable as there are so many more working landrovers out there more than any other 4x4 and take more abuse and need a little maintenance from time to time , the people who end up buying knackered landrovers are the poeple who buy the ones covered in lights and snorkals and havnt got a clue about anything else .

I've dragged my mega mud-tyred 300 Tdi HiCap out a couple of times with my new shiny Navara D40. The Nissan is the dog's back wheels (it's my second, I've now run them for 6 years). I have yet to drive a more comfortable all round capable vehicle to be honest (the other Jap competitors aren't as comfortable/car like/well equipped/value for money in my opinion) but it is in no way faultless. Fortunately the Nissans have always been under warranty - I would be wary of buying one with no warranty and mine doesn't really get used for proper work (it'd soon be devalued/destroyed doing what we do for a living).

I am in no way a Landy basher - I think they are mint and have owned/operated them for a long time. You can't get away from the fact that they are built around an ancient design and go wrong more than they should (partly due to poor/antiquated engineering tolerances, but mostly due to a lack of maintenance that isn't necessary in more modern vehicles so often gets overlooked). My Landy has had a hard life (it has been well maintained but expected to work!), but has earned me more money than any of my other vehicles. It looks OK without any straight panels and a brush paint job, and will still be worth more than scrap value when it finally gives up the ghost (which it won't as bits are super cheap).

Basically, Land Rovers are the nuts - however I would think twice about having one as my only vehicle.

I have had 4 land rovers, 2 bobtail range rovers countless jap trucks and the one that takes the biscuit for me is my little Suzuki Sj410 bought for £150 4 years ago, its never cost much to mot, its cheap tax and classic insurance and will go places most wont for many reasons its narrow width and light weight being just 2 :thumbup1:
I had an SJ410 years ago. I got stuck in a peat bog miles from the road and no mobiles then. I pulled the stereo out of the dash to use under the jack( i didn't have anything else). Jacked it up and pushed it over and drove away. The stereo was left to dry a week and stuck back in. I thought it would be knackered, but worked right up till i sold it. Really light for off road, but dangerous in high winds!

I brought a g wagon for 200 quid that had sat sat for 6 years as I needed a cheap 4x4 for a woods work horse and run about and bit of fun vehicle.

it needed a set of wiper blades a rear spring and fuel pump and has so far been the best 4x4 I have owned it goes places my swb 90 could not thanks to the lockers. The chassis is solid I was going to eBay it but I think I am going to hang on and build it in to a beast... Army's across the world can't be wrong!!! Body's a bit tatty bit overall it's more comfy I have driven it to the Scottish borders with no problems, overall if I had the money I would buy a newer one but as a woods vehicle and run about its perfect and has not cost me a fortune in diffs gear boxes.

Here it is with two dumpy bags of chip after getting us across fields and an embankment.

Sniff!

It's "G" Wagen:001_tt2:

In der German pronounced "Gay" Wagen:lol:

Honest

The absolutely lovely couple in our all male factory tour thought that was particularly hystercial.

PS

I was kinda disappointed wor Van failed to pull out an 6 wheel pre-mix truck, which was stuck, the driver had thought he would wind me up by suggesting I did so.

Nay worries, I had an Army tow chain lying behind the seats, I couldnt get the weight transfer right so despite all wheels locked and low ratio she simply sat and gorried 4 holes.

I still dream of a 350/280CDI 461 Model "worker"
