Little egret,  bad shot but I had to park the van up then wind the window down to take it. There were maybe 20 feeding in a cattle field on the edge of my village. Lots about this year.

I've seen only a few of the big ones, but usually further south in the Dordogne although I've seen a couple up this way. Last year in the Vienne I saw about 30 or 40 Little Egrets in fields mucked up with cattle.

There must have been 100 or so of these Little Egrets on the flooded water meadows in the village today. We passed this spot 30 minutes before, nothing, on the return trip, masses of them in groups of 23 or 30. Unfortunately I stopped the car right next to them so my wife could take the photos, off they went. Hell of a sight to see so many.

Think they're Cattle Egrets, not easy to tell from the photo but Little Egret have a more upright appearance with a longer neck and black bill whilst Cattle Egret are squat, more 'dumpy' looking with yellow bills. If you look at the feet, Cattle Egret have black feet and Little Egret yellow.

I think Cattle Egret have yellow legs as well . May be just the cock bird .
