Loading 1m3 bags onto a trailer

some kind of swinging jib on the side of the trailer with a simple hand/electric winch on it so u lift, swing through the rear of the trailer with ramp down the lower........ hopefully u'd be able to keep light and simple and not too high above sides of trailer?

 

I'm trying, even the wifes agrees with that part!!!

Just pull up to the log pile and load the bags while they're on the trailer. Drag the bags off at the other end.

That still means loading the bags by hand, or only being able to process straight into empty bags on the trailer. We would like like to have 1m3 bags stored in our yard ready to go, but need to be able to get them onto the trailer, full. Thanks though.

Make a jib to fit over your standard forks ie 2 bits of box section to slot the forks thru then a rsj or similar protruding forwards from the centre a few foot

That's got to be a runner. If you can drop the sides or modify them so they can

Do the sides not just come off with a couple of bolts? If the ramp folds down take it off the pins then load it with whatever you like. Or use a compact loader that will drive up the ramps. Or failing that buy a cheap flat bed trailer to use with the logs.

First reaction was to extend or modify the fork truck as others have suggested however:-

 

Make a small loading bay the same height as your trailer or slightly higher, preferably with a smooth top - old diesel tank with painted side for example. back your trailer up to the loading bay and put a bag on the bay with your fork truck.

 

Two of you should be able to slide a bag in without too much effort, I assume your trailer is alloy floored?

12 volt swing lift, but you will have to make something up to stand it on, as you won't get the height to lift a m3 bag on to the trailer.

Allo all. Right, a special prize for the person who comes up with the best method of loading a 1m3 bag of firewood onto the trailer in the picture. We were sure we'd thought of every possible method, but thought we'd get the opinions of others who do it day in day out.

 

I'd use a grapple loader but in the absence of that what about scaffold poles made into an H frame, straddling the trailer wheels. Two close spaced poles under the front trailer wheel for the first bag and roll forward for the next. Bags hanging like a garden swing and then haul the top bar over to load. Like raising the side of a barn in a western movie, or indeed how a skip lorry operates.

 

As a typical builder's bag has about 0.7m3 and 300kg wet I suppose a 1m3 bag would be 500kg worst case. Given a few dimensions and top stacking height a bit of trigonometry would give the maximum pull required..

 

Otherwise how about a simple gantry crane but consider loler

I would shrink wrap the bags on one standard pallet and load onto the trailer with a pallet jack. I did this for years with my 32' trailer and could deliver up to 5 cords at a time.
