What has gone wrong is that nasty stuff called red tape , why is it still required that all applicants to the police force must be capable of swimmins arround 100 meters ??? it would appear that its not for the purposes of saving a life . good on the two children for doind what they did Real heroes :thumbup1:

Totally agree.

It has always amazed me why you must sit an entrance exam, get a formal interview, provisional acceptance THEN your fitness test last ? to join the police force. I mean what type of people are they trying to attract?

Disgusting! A man slaughter charge should be on the cards for the numpties that allowed this to happen.

Agreed

To think the womans young daughter was standing there listening to the plaintive wails of her dying mother as the emergency services just sat there really makes my blood boil.

I i would also be aware that i do not have a spinall injuries approved stretcher so would not run the risk of potentially killing someone by moving them in an attempt to help

Why do you think I specifically reversed the pickup up to the entrance of the mineshaft? it wasn't just to attach the climbing rope to......think about it.....

a pickup tailgate makes for a perfect stretcher, that's the trouble with most folk these days.....no imagination.

Without getting into the specifics of this situation you clearly haven’t a clue what you are talking about, a tailgate is a perfect tailgate and is the most unsuitable spinal board you could devise, if you knew anything about casualty management you would know this.

The first rule of first aid is Primum non nocere (first do no harm) if you find me in need of help please call someone who knows what they are doing.

it is a sad state when so much money and time is spent with firemen/firefighters going on courses, they are not trained to think for themselves ie COMMON SENSE!

they are trained to follow rules and be like sheep.

I seen them at work a few times and despite all the training they still made a balls of trying to put fires out.

Just keep your fingers crossed you will never need them, saying that they are all we got & do a great job if left alone to get on with it.

Just bear this in mind when your up a tree in the rain making money to pay bills, the people making the H&S rules and them following it up and making much more money in a nice warm office.

For me a lesson from this is to go to the local emergency services and let them know what skills you have and to call you if they need you. I imagine a large majority of these people have no idea of the skill level tree climbers/riggers have and would jump at the chance of outside assistance. i know its what im doing tomorrow anyway

RIP the woman who died

There was a spinal board there and trained paramedics!!

All that was need was some one with the practical ability and balls to use what ever equipment was at hand to get her out, a great many of us on here wold have got that done!!!

CTS, all that legal stuff is well and good, but in this country you end up in front of a guy in a wig and despite what people claim most of them are pretty sensible, thats why I asked for a real example of a prosecution.

In reality if you are trying to do the right thing, for the right reasons, you will be fine.
