Is the stripped thread in plastic or alloy?

 

If alloy a helicoil is the simplest, if plastic two options spring to mind:

 

1 a stepped stud and cut a new thread

 

2 threaded insert for plastic like

Identify the thread on the stud that screws in to the hole - it will have an external diameter and a number of threads per mm - something like M5 x 0.8 etc, you will need to purchase a helicoil of the correct size and a tap that will cut a receiving thread for the helicoil and will match the outer thread of the helicoil (not the internal thread).

I have done a couple this way and had success with it as a repair - the saw should have an alloy crankcase!

Pals 361. Been running on veg and not used for a year. Wierdly it wasnt oiling well . Eventually managed to dig the oil pump out.new worm gear, freed up the pump with diesel/ white spirits. All seems well now

Why oh why do owners do it to the tools of their trade! Just had three MS201s in, man they were really minging - think that is the modern way of saying covered in ye olde shyte!

I don't expect pristine but do expect the chip to come off with no more than two applications and scrub with a brush and white spirit!

Just been working on something just like that, everything gunked up behind the clutch with vegetable oil residue.  Is white spirit the correct way, after the thick has been scraped out?   I don't want to damage anything like oil pipe or crank seals.

I think it's a feature of blokes liking to use blunt saws, the fine dust finds it's way in. Sharp tooth-big chip. Easy clean. K
