Right or wrong?

You received a call for a bid you may or may not have given? You told the customer you had not provided a bid for said job. You provided a new bid for customer who hired you. You got the Job!, in business that is all that matters other than the fact that the customer was happy and you got paid. Never feel wrong or guilty about being a professional. I am certain that everyone on this site strives to be professional.

One thing this situation does make me think, is that its may be a good idea to follow up quotes with a call to see what the customer has decided.

You never know they may have lost your details and your call may be just what they needed, so they could ask you to do the job.

Cant see anything wrong in what you did.

I would hope for the other guys sake that the customer hadnt given him the go ahead then called you by mistake, still not your problem though.

I had a couple of jobs were when Ive got there and its already been done after agreeing my price and time to carry out the work.:cursing:(only happened twice though IIRC on smallish jobs)

100% the customers fault, I couldnt even think about blaming the other contractor, unless, he started getting into the customer, finding out my price then undercutting, etc etc which IMO is very, very low.

When I started I did this but always drew a blank so gave up and people never seemed to be pleased to hear back from you....!

The customer called you asking if you'd quoted so it's not as if he'd given the job to the other fellow. So I'd say you're in the right.... it's just like he was calling for another quote!

Nothing wrong there, the customer forgot the other guys, musnt have been memorable enough!

i have followed up a few quotes before now and got the work, sometimes weeks later! small jobs its not as much of an issue, larger ones i try and push through, my higher price was chosen over another firm the other week because of my attitude when i quoted. Its not all down to your price!
