Difficult to be sure but after flicking through two volumes of The Moths Of The British Isles ? I'd guess it's an Umber, of which there are a few.

I'd go for a  Scalloped Oak, Crocallis elinguaria.

Those Blues are pretty.  There seems to have been a hatch of meadow Browns about a fortnight ago; there are dozens about.

Yeah seem to have loads of browns today,and yeah Holly Blue is one of my favourites

I found these little aliens inside a tree tube. Has anyone seen them before they are new to me. The tube was holding water in it too

 aren’t these rat tailed maggots from the hover fly, which are very beneficial to the gardeners ?
